  1. I bought this e-book after finishing the series again and was wanting a bit more to ponder in anticipation of book 7. It was interesting, though some opinions and analyses ignored passages in the books which contained the information to clearly contradict the stated analysis or opinion.

I guess I was hoping for more concrete information, and perhaps some genuine spoilers. Mostly, this book was just speculation and “educated” guessing. I felt a little let down and wanting something with more substance. It seemed like I was reading a web log or USENET News Group thread (which can be done for free and you get the benefit of interaction with others).

I was also -appalled- at the lack of proofreading. It is clear no one read through this book prior to publishing. Will someone PLEASE PROOF READ THIS BOOK and correct the typos??? It was embarrassing and annoying to read.

Is it worth the $11, maybe. It does collect some interesting thoughts and ideas in one spot. Mr. Zimmerman did put some effort into the original draft and so I don’t regret spending the money but it is hard to recommend this work highly.

I purchased this book as something to read before book 7 but found it to contain even less information than most websites let alone have anything new in it at all. The author has a small bias towards characters which may also not suit all readers. If you really must have everything HP then get it but this book will not give you anything new that you could not read at any of the four big websites.

I really enjoyed this book and I’m sure any Harry Potter fan would find it very entertaining. It’s very witty and some of the references had me laughing my head off (e.g. the mention of “Sherman and Peabody”….you might have to be older to appreciate that one though!). I found myself nodding my head in agreement with the author’s choices as to why he loved JK Rowling or what made the chapter memorable. The author doesn’t presume to preach or draw final conclusions or tell you what to think; the book simply presents different perspectives and highlights with regard to Book 6. This book gets a 5 out of 5 from me!

As with a lot of us Harry Potter fans I tend to check out a lot of these “discussion” books rather skeptically. I’m very glad I decided to get this one. The author has done a great job of being informative, and offering many topics for discussion, even if there are a few typos. The few mistakes that got past the editors, such as “Privet Lane” instead of Drive, bothered me a little at first, but all the information and discussions he gives more than make up for the oopses. All in all, I can honestly say, it’s more than worth it, especially since the author gives the option of permanent updates via e-mail for the book. Enjoy it and the discussions it will start.

  5. Emma says:

This is a very good book for fans of the Harry Potter books. It gives a vast amount of insight to the theories and opinions on the mysteries of Book 6. There are many good points to the open questions that are left in the Half Blood Prince and every chapter’s highlights are discussed by the author and also by reader comments. The book also gets updated frequently and you get a PDF of the whole book with the updated parts every time new material gets added. Great idea!

A definite must have for Potterheads.
